Hours later, I think I have my script

Hello nation! Welcome back to Media Schmedia.  Tonight…!

Proposition 8.  Due to the passing of this bill back in 2008, the California constitution states, “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”  But recently federal Judge Vaughn Walker overturned the gay marriage ban in a groundbreaking case that will be appealed to the 9^th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Nation, this is big.  Gays and lesbians say their constitutional rights are being ignored while those opposed to gay marriage such as Jim Campbell, a lawyer on the defense team in the case says, "In America, we should uphold and respect the right of people to make policy changes through the democratic process, especially changes that do nothing more than uphold the definition of marriage that has existed since the founding of this country and beyond."

Prop 8 and gay marriage poses a grave threat to our society.  This is the “Gay ThreatDown”!

Threat number 1:

Marriage, whether gay or straight, is being taught in our schools!  As of now, 96% California school districts provide a comprehensive education of sexual health, and require that “instruction and materials shall be appropriate for use with pupils of all races, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and pupils with disabilities” and “instruction and materials shall teach respect for marriage and committed relationships.”  So they must teach respect for marriage without bias.  If prop 8 is overturned, they will be required to teach that same-sex marriage is equal in every way to traditional marriage.

My question is, why are we talking about marriage in our schools at all?!  Especially in this day and age when sex and marriage really have nothing to do with one another.  People are having sex out of wed-lock while married couples haven’t had sex in years!  No wonder we are rated 25^th out of 30 developing countries in math, and no wonder we can find such delights like this…(show video of dumb people)

Threat number 2:

            Judge Vaughn Walker stated, “Proposition 8 played on the fear that exposure to homosexuality would turn children into homosexuals and that parents should dread having children who are not heterosexual.”  This is exactly what is wrong with our country today! We are losing the fear! We must Keep Fear from Not Being Alive Any Longer! (wink at camera and picture of Stephen Colbert’s poster up on screen).  If we don’t fear that teaching our children will turn them gay, then what will we fear? When will the sanity end? Next, muslim towers of terror will spring up everywhere and our nation will turn into a bunch of homosexual terrorists bent on taking over the world (show pictures of “gay terrorist and Elton john)

And what’s worst of all.  The media keeps using things such as editorial cartoons that portray these serious issues in a humorous way!  There is a time to laugh, there is a time to report the news, and there is a time to be afraid.   Jokesters over at the New York Times, The Huffington Post, The Salt Lake Tribune, and many others think it’s fun to make jokes about Prop 8 and the issue of gay marriage.
